Knife of the Month – September 2021

The North Coast Knife Club can boast a number of renowned knifemakers in their ranks.

To keep to our commitment of raising the profiles of our local talent, KZNknifemakers is running a competition within the club for a “knife of the month” or KOTM for short. Every member has the opportunity to submit one or more of their works to their peers and the Kznknifemakers community each calendar month.

The winner will have their work featured as the WhatsApp group profile pic, the club’s Facebook group header image, and of course on the kznknifemakers’s facebook page and website for the month. All the monthly winners will be in the running for the Knife of the Year accolade and be featured in the forthcoming 2022 calendar.

We had a number of great submissions from the makers in September 2021 to choose from and as such, it proved a tight race between Wesley, Len, and Sebastian who after the first round of votes were deadlocked. On the tiebreak, Sebastian Nico took the top spot.

Sebastian, known for his artistic culinary knives, made a stunning boning knife out of Bertie Rietveld’s dragonskin damascus for the blade, and a tikume bolster with a ray skin-wrapped handle.

Congratulations to Wesley (Westville, KZN).
